As the second, it should be apparent the major difference off the bat—such darkness and heaviness. Yet still attractive and tugs at the bookish part of me that yearns to crawl into a nook and read the words only as they are illuminated by a flashlight’s small light. Knowing you are surrounded by all the books, all the possibilities lined up and categorized on shelves standing straight and at-the-ready. And the globes. The different styles and sizes convey a long history, a collection, a growth of knowledge as understanding and exploration have advanced. When you stand beside a globe like this, you are a traveler, though you may never move your feet an inch. Your mind is released and able to open a window to see new places.
Yet, all of this also seems somewhat stifled, as though all the knowledge, even though it is immense, is limited by the thick walls that serve as an alter for those books that they do present. There is a sense of the finite—every shelf is full, leaving no room for growth, expansion. Every globe forced to spin the same way again and again.
